About The Authors and
GEC Publishing, LLC

Rosy Mae Bateau began writing short essays, stories, and plays as a teenager just “for the fun of it”. Some of the work was occasionally printed in the high school newspaper, while also participating in several school plays, fanning growing interest in creative writing. Growing up in a rural environment provided Rosy Mae with a strong foundation, where a small group of kids of all ages only had each other, allowing for friendships to form quickly and adventures to unfold. Rosy Mae lives full time on Daufuskie Island and is a perpetual student of the Gullah culture and island history.

Jan Ross is an artist in residence on Daufuskie Island and is an avid student of Gullah history, language, and culture. Jan’s formal education began at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. She continued her studies while living and travelling in Europe for six years as well as ongoing education with some of America’s top watercolor instructors. Jan’s work has exhibited in more than 500 juried exhibitions and galleries in all 50 states and a number of foreign countries. She conducts public workshops as well as offering private lessons in the watercolor art form.
